Located on Banks Island, Ikaahuk means "where you go across to". It was given its non-traditional name in honor of the ship 'Mary Sachs' which served as part of the 1913 Canadian Arctic Expedition. The Sachs Harbour graveyard at the top of a steep hill. The shadow of the CCG Sir Wilfrid Laurier in the background. We were careful to respect the gravesites at a distance. (Photo by A. Balsom) |
